Round 2 brings drama, suspense, and high level action to the VietCredit 2020 Championships!
The VietCredit 2020 Championships have been nothing short of incredible thus far. Showing everyone both on the field, and in attendance, that anything is possible in this dramatic competition.
The 2nd Round brought us another great selection of some of Vietnam’s top 7 a side teams, with both amateur and professionals coming together to grace us with feats of skill, endurance, and grace. All leading up to another inspiring final where the best teams battled it out for the single spot into the finals on August 23rd.
We would like to say thank you again to everyone that joined us including all the referees, spectators, players, support team, and others including Asia Pacific Events for the organization. With special thanks to our partners and sponsors from VietCredit, Hafele, Kamito, and City International Hospital who helped make the day exciting, fun, and safe for everyone!
This week saw incredible games from the very first kick-off, and the action was extremely intense as everyone fought to stay out of the lower division’s grueling schedule. Some of the favorites in the competition however faced equally talented competition though, which ultimately lead to the unfortunate and early dismissal of some.
While this week’s schedule showcased 2 fields, it also meant that team’s had more time to rest between games. This was a double edged sword for some though like PSG, Uc My, VietCredit, Vietjet, and Phoenix FC, as they fell victim not to lack of skill or heart, but to their cool-down routines between games and cramps as the day progressed. A great showing from all though and we hope to see some of them again in Round 3, for the final chance to qualify.
This week’s first featured team is Nghiem Pham Sport. This team was well conditioned, and high functioning from the first game of the day. Seeing them play tough team, one after another, in close scoring games. They were calm, cool, and collected throughout the day and showed us what it takes to make it to the finals with well played performances all the way to the finals in the winner’s bracket.
Our 2nd featured team is Arsenal Artists. They also played great football all day with standout performances from a number of their players. They also played the majority of the day in the winner’s bracket before losing to Nghiem Pham in the finals of the winner’s division. This saw them go to the finals of the lower competition, where they would need to face PSG O35 to advance and have a rematch against Nghiem Pham in the round finals.
This in ultimately what happened as Arsenal won the game against PSG 3-0. From there the stage was set for the rematch, and Arsenal would need to win against their competition 2 times in a row. Whereas Nghiem Pham only needed to win 1 time, in the double elimination format, to secure their place in the finals.
Both teams started strong and had chances but it was Nghiem Pham that struck first and scored in convincing fashion. The battle raged on and Arsenal’s keeper pulled out a number of incredible stops to keep his team in the game. With time winding Arsenal had their chances, but Nghiem Pham’s style of play was too strong to be broken down.
Finally, it wasn’t meant to be for Arsenal on this day as the final whistle blew, we crowned Nghiem Pham FC the Champions of Round 2. A great showing by another great team!
They join the VietCredit All-Stars and Minh Nhat Fc in the Championship Finals August 23rd, and await the Round 3 qualifiers to see who will join them in the Biggest 7 a side Tournament in Vietnam!
We welcome you to join us for the action at Thu Duc University, August 2nd, from 8:00am to see who will join them and take the last spot in the finals.
See you there!
